Millinery class: Black sinamay hat

Among the 7 hats I made for the class, here is my favorite:

Black Sinamay hat

I just love it! I would actually wear it wear it a little more forward.

I used black sinamay and satin for the trimmings.

Here a picture at the Spring Fashion show at my college:

For the class, we didn't have to make sinamay hat. Actually, the 5 hats I made before were enough. But the teacher was nice and since I wanted to play with sinamay, she explained to me how to do that.
I'm now a huge fan of sinamay. I love how you start with a simple bolt of sinamay "fabric" and you end up with a hat. And the possibilities are endless.

I know it doesn't look like it by the pictures, but you need quite a lot of time to make a hat. For each step, you have a whole lot of had sewing (my fingers hurt just by thinking about that...). But the final product definitely worth it!

I love it, but to wear it I still need:
1) To sew in an elastic
2) An event!!!

Hope you like it too!

This is a beautiful sinamay hat, especially the satin trim and bow. Well done! I collect and wear hats to my church and to weddings or any other occasion that offers a good excuse! I have several vintage hats from the 1930s and 40s, but I like to design my own as well. One day I hope to take a class like you! Best wishes on your hat journey!

Thank you very much for the kind words Susan. They brighten my day.
You should take a class, it's really soothing and rewarding. Best.
How did you do the hat?
I am also a hat collector and LOVE to wear them to church. I'm known as the hat lady and if I don't wear one, everyone asks me why! (Haha). I absolutely love the design of this hat! I've been toying with the idea of making my own hat. It's a little daunting since my philosophy is the bigger the hat, the better. I am a photographer so finding the time is also a little concerning. How much time does it take? Is there somewhere I can find a tutorial? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Your hat is beautiful and if you ever want to let go of it, please don't hesitate to contact me!
